RNX:
META-MODERN

By RNX

3.23.25

In my recent explorations into the cultural landscape, I've been deeply engaged with the philosophy of Meta-Modernism. This isn't just about reacting against the cynicism of postmodernism; it's an evolution, a nuanced dance between the idealism of modern times and the skepticism of the postmodern era. My work with Meta-Modern seeks to bridge these worlds, offering a fresh lens through which we can view our increasingly complex, contradictory society.

Meta Modern is a design philosophy that influences decisions about aesthetics, functionality, user experience, sustainability, and innovation. In essence it is the true combination of Classic and Futurism. It's about finding harmony in the dissonance, embracing both the earnestness of human endeavor and the irony of our global condition. Here, I share insights from my journey into this vibrant, emerging cultural paradigm.

All of the pieces embody a hypothetical Archeo-Future using sustainable materials, Industrial Avant-Garde aesthetics, and interactive elements that invite users to engage with the work on multiple levels, both practically and conceptually.

Machina (PLA, Resin)

This piece is the antithesis to the oft-portrayed cybernetic dystopias of science fiction, where metal, flesh, and stone do not clash but converse harmoniously. "Machina" embodies a vision of symbiosis, where the lines between the living and the mechanical blur into a single, conscious entity. Each curve and contour of the bust reflects a world where there was never a conflict between the organic and the artificial, but rather a seamless integration, suggesting a future where technology and nature are not adversaries but allies in the dance of existence.

Lithos (PLA, Resin, LED)

"Lithos" is a profound homage to the parabola, a geometric shape ubiquitous in our daily lives yet often overlooked. This sculpture, devoid of any straight line, embodies the essence of parabolic curves, extending in all directions with an unbroken, flowing grace. Its stone-like facade conjures visions of natural geology, suggesting a piece of Earth's artistry, sculpted by the unseen hands of time and force. Yet, "Lithos" does not merely rest; it floats, embodying a delicate balance that speaks to the ethereal quality of nature itself. This levitation imbues the piece with a phenomenological glow, an aura that mirrors the intrinsic beauty and mystery of the natural world.

Astro Lexicon (PLA, Resin, Glass)

Its silvery sculpted appearance meets that of a seamless, enigmatic sphere, whose surface might reflect the stars themselves or project visions of distant galaxies into the minds of those who dare to gaze upon it. This orb, akin to a telescopic device from an unfathomable civilization, invites speculation about its true purpose and origin. The "Astro Lexicon" embodies the mystery of the universe, a silent testament to knowledge that transcends our own, a reminder of the vast, unexplored depths of space and time. It challenges us to ponder the existence of beings or intelligence that have mastered the art of seeing beyond the physical, perhaps even into the very fabric of reality itself. This sculpture is not merely an object but a portal to questions about our place in the cosmos, the nature of advanced civilizations, and the boundless potential of technology that we have yet to comprehend.

PRMTRX Home/Office

The "PRMTRX" series is a tribute to the forward-thinking ethos of Parametricism, with loose inspiration drawn from the pioneering organic architecture of Antoni Gaudí. This collection ventures into product design, bringing the essence of adaptive, flowing forms into everyday environments. The "PRMTRX" collection, while rooted in contemporary parametric design, nods to Gaudí's belief in the marriage of nature, art, and architecture. It proposes that our surroundings should not only reflect our identity but also inspire and evolve with us, creating a harmonious blend of the past's organic genius with the future's technological possibilities.

Our Calcified, Ashen Memory

"Our Calcified, Ashen Memory" draws profound inspiration from the fossilized remnants of ammonites and the skeletal echoes of humanity, presenting itself as if it were the relics of a civilization long vanished into the sands of time. This piece evokes a narrative of loss and remembrance, where each curve and line mimics the intricate patterns of ammonite shells, while the texture and hue suggest the ashen, calcified remains of human existence. In this sculpture, time is not just a concept but a tangible, visible force. The ammonite-like forms symbolize the cyclical nature of life, death, and rebirth, while the human-inspired elements stand as poignant reminders of our mortality and legacy. Together, they create a dialogue between the organic and the eternal, suggesting that even in decay, there lies a beauty, a story, a history waiting to be told.
